Annual Awards


JCI Lansing Annual Awards: 
Award recipients are selected and presented an award every year during our annual banquet. These awards are a small token of our appreciation and recognize our membership for their efforts throughout the year. 

 

The Bob Pancost Memorial Business Partnership Award

This award is given to businesses or organizations that have made a significant impact on or outstanding contribution to JCI Lansing.
Robert C. Pancost was the 50th President of the Lansing Jaycees. He was an award-winning President and a JCI Senator. Over the years, Bob never forgot his role with the Lansing Jaycees. He continued to support the chapter, donating printing services to many chapter projects and providing guidance on many chapter issues. He was integral in organizing yearly outings for the Past Presidents Group. His leadership, guidance and friendship served as an example for all to follow.
This award, formerly the Business Partnership Award, was renamed by unanimous vote by the 2008 Board of Directors. This award is determined by the Board of Directors at year-end.

The Sam Street Hughes Memorial Award
- Springboard of the Year

This award is given to a member with less than one year of experience in the Lansing Jaycees and is to recognize the outstanding contribution of one of our first-year members. 
This award was later renamed the Sam Street Hughes Memorial “Springboard” Award by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors. Sam Street Hughes was the first president of the Lansing Jaycees in 1929. It was his commitment and dedication that helped make the Lansing Jaycees one of the strongest chapters in Michigan.
This award is voted on by the Board of Directors at year-end.

The C. William Brownfield Memorial Award
- New Jaycee of the Year


The C. William Brownfield Memorial Award is presented annually to a member having completed their first year as a Jaycee. 
The award is named in honor of Bill Brownfield, the author of the Jaycee Creed. Bill Brownfield recognized that the spirit and enthusiasm of the Jaycee movement came from the spirit of first-year Jaycees.
This award is voted on by the Board of Directors at year-end.

The Paul D. Bagwell Memorial Award
- Spirit of the Jaycees


The Paul D. Bagwell Memorial Award is presented annually to the member who best exemplified the Jaycee Spirit.
Paul Bagwell was the Lansing Jaycees’ 15th President (1943-44).  After serving as President, Paul went on to be President of the Michigan Jaycees and then President of JCI USA. During Paul’s Jaycee career, his enthusiasm was unmatched. His dedication to the Jaycee movement was what “spirited” him on to the national Jaycees presidency.
This award is voted on by the Board of Directors at year-end and all members are eligible.

The Robert M. Reames Memorial Award

Outstanding Leadership
 
The Robert M. Reames Memorial Award is presented annually to the member who is best recognized as an outstanding leader in JCI Lansing.
 
Robert Reames was the Lansing Jaycees’ 13th President (1941-42). After serving as President, Robert went on to be President of the Michigan Jaycees.  During his Jaycee career, Robert Reames led by example.  He truly believed in what the Jaycees are all about: “leadership training through community service.” 
 
This award is voted on by the Board of Directors at year-end and all members are eligible.

The Dawn A. Hetzel Humanitarian Award
 

The Dawn A. Hetzel Humanitarian Award is presented annually to the member that exemplifies the highest dedication to serving others within JCI and their community.
In pursuit of empowering members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) to make lasting impacts in their communities across the world, Dawn Hetzel led the organization as World President in 2017.  During her presidency, she visited 56 countries and met with JCI members to invoke civic leadership.  Dawn was a dual member of the Lansing and Indianapolis chapters during her time as a Jaycee.
 
This award is voted on by the Board of Directors at year-end and all members are eligible.

President's Award
The President’s Award is given to the member(s) who, in the mind of the President, had the biggest impact on the chapter during the past year. This award recognizes the member(s) who went above and beyond the call of duty all year long. This award is chosen by the outgoing president and all members are eligible.

The John H. Armbruster Memorial Award
- Key Member
 
The John H. Armbruster “Key Member” Memorial Award is presented annually to the outstanding Jaycee who continued to show support, dedication and enthusiasm following his or her first year of membership. This award is named in honor of John H. Armbruster in recognition of his long and faithful service to the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the St. Louis Jaycees and contributed to the Jaycees throughout his life.
This is the highest award given by JCI Lansing each year. It is voted on by past Key Member winners.

This award is selected by the board of directors and is presented to the chair(s) of the best project(s) of the year.
