Are you finally happy that the snow is *mostly* gone and are you itching for an opportunity to get outside and get active? Then the Lansing Jaycees Softball Team might be the right thing for you! The games will be played on Monday evenings, but the exact dates have not been released yet. There would also be regular practices, but that schedule should be worked out once the team has shaped up. If you are interested, or have any questions, don't hesitate to contact either Melissa Horste, Nick Halpin, or Membership Vice President Charlie Root -- email addresses for all three are listed below. Contact Information: Melissa: melissa.emily.horste@gmail.com Nick: jnickhalpin@gmail.com Charlie: croot80@gmail.com East Lansing Art Festival Face Painters Needed!
The East Lansing Art Festival is quickly coming up and we could use help with volunteers for face painting! You don't have to be a world class artist to help out with this event, as just have a bit of paint on their faces makes children attending the festival happy. If you can help out for a few hours on either Saturday, May 18 or Sunday, May 19, please contact Community Development Vice President Ruthi Dake at: ruthilovesyou87@gmail.com. We'll gladly take non-members as volunteers too, so if you have a friend/family member who would enjoy the event, feel free to put them in touch with Ruthi, or pass along their name and contact information to her. Hope you can sign up to help with this event! Support Our Bowling For Kids' Sake Team
This coming Friday (April 26) three brave souls will be "Bowling For Kids' Sake" to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Michigan Capital Region. So far, Charlie Root, Angela Fossi and Lauren Leeds have raised $372 to help Big Brothers Big Sisters make matches between Littles and their Bigs. Having a mentor in your life as a young child can make a tremendous impact. For example, did you know that 67 percent of former Littles surveyed agree that their Big played a role in their decision to attend college? Any donation amount will help Big Brothers Big Sisters make a difference in the lives of countless local children. You can pick a team member, or just make a general team donation, and make a donation here. Why Do You Relay?
Lauren Leeds The Lansing Jaycees have set a lofty goal of raising $5,000 for the Relay for Life of Lansing coming up on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8. I Relay for my father-in-law, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer six years ago. When my husband and I first got the news, I did what many people do and went straight to the American Cancer Society (ACS) website to read about and learn more about what he and our family would be facing. It was difficult to learn that the five-year survival rate for his type of cancer is 50 percent. Six years later, I'm happy to report that my father-in-law is in pretty good health and beat the odds. I Relay to help the ACS reach its goal of creating a world with more birthdays and ensure that this valuable resource will be available to people who receive a diagnosis in the future. So, that's my reason to Relay, but I'd love to hear your's ... So far, the Lansing Jaycees team has raised $1,440 and we could use your help, either as fellow team members or donors, to help meet our goal. You can sign up to either join the fight or donate to a team member here. If you are interested in dedicating/decorating a Luminaria for $10, feel free to contact any of the Lansing Jaycees on the team: Ruthi Dake, Angela Clock, Abby Siegel, Joe Kelly, Kris Dezelski, Lauren Leeds, Nicole Dezelski or Jill Blust.
