Texas Hold'em - November The money we raise at Texas Hold'em is put to good use in the individual development, membership, and community events you know and love. Without this necessary fundraising money projects are at risk. | Vote! Vote! Vote!
The fate of the Lansing Jaycees is in your hands! Voting for the Chapter's 85th president and the 2013 Board of Directors will take place at our Annual Meeting/November General Membership Meeting (GMM) on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Tripper's. To entice you to come out and vote at the meeting, the Chapter will be providing free appetizers at the meeting. The social hour starts at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Between now and the November GMM, you should be contacted by a member of the Lansing Jaycees Nominations and Elections Committee. If you have any questions about the Chapter's elections, feel free to contact Carrie May, committee chair, or committee members Colleen Burton and Andrew Hoard. If you are unable to attend the Annual Meeting, please take a few minutes to make your voice heard by voting this absentee ballot. To make use of this absentee ballot, simply fill it out as you wish to vote and submit it to a member of the elections committee before the polls close on Nov. 13. You can also designate another Jaycee to vote for you via proxy. If you are interested in voting by proxy, please contact a member of the elections committee directly. The current list of candidates are: President: Daniel Harris Abby Siegel Vice President/Director: Ruthie Dake Ilona Hajdar Charlie Root Treasurer: Sheryl Soczek Secretary: Eric Richmond Interested in serving on the 2013 Lansing Jaycees Board of Directors? There is still time to throw your hat into the ring. Contact a member of the elections committee for information on how to be nominated. See you at the Annual Meeting in November! Stargazing Reboot!
Were you looking forward to the "Celestial Sightings" training that was scheduled for last month? While we were disappointed that the event was canceled due to weather, fear not, the stargazing event with Kalamazoo Jaycee Shawn Brueshaber has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 19. The event will feature a telescope observatory session in conjunction with a computer simulation of the universe and an unaided eye orientation of the heavens. During the few hours to follow, a series of objects will be observed and a brief discussion on each will be given. Shawn will also be answering the questions submitted by members at the October GMM. Make sure to dress warmly, as the event will be taking place outside in October. Hope to see you there! Learn how to Judge Debate
Want to learn how to judge debate so you can help with future Jaycee debate-related events? Individual Development Vice President Joe Kelly has arranged for those interested to attend a debate tournament in Muskegon later this month. Lansing Jaycees are invited to the Muskegon high school, Mona Shores, debate tournament on Oct. 27, where we will learn how a high school debate tournament functions and how to judge debate rounds. If interested in attending, please inform the Mona Shores debate coach, Mandi Garvey (mandi.garvey@gmail.com ), so the school can get an accurate count for food. Food will be available for sale at the high school. Contact Joe Kelly with any questions about the event or carpooling. Brush up Your Resume
Learn the secrets for writing an outstanding resume and mastering the interview process at the Resume Workshop event on Nov. 18 with our very own Jaimie Hutchison. Even if you are satisfied with your current position, you never know when opportunity will come knocking, so be prepared. This workshop will focus on learning how to develop a resume that will get you noticed and interview strategies that will land you the job. Hope to see you at the Haslett Library on Nov. 18 for this event. Don't miss it! Texas Hold'em - November
