Lansing Jaycees Juice for the week of 9/18/12
Lansing Jaycees

Let's Beat Edmonton!

by Angela Fossi, Chair of the Board

Hear ye, hear ye!

I proclaim we have accepted a challenge with Edmonton.

Save your coins and help us raise money to support the JCI Nothing But Nets Program. The winning chapter will also have bragging rights!

Funny thing, it needs to be change, so start saving today! See below for details ...

What: Twinning Chapter Challenge
When: September 15th - November 15th
How: This is a competition between chapters to see who can collect the most money. You collect coins for your own chapter. Coins over a $1 and bills will count towards the other chapter. When you put money into another chapter's containers it lowers the amount they have collected.

For example: if Lansing collected $20 in pennies and Edmonton put $30 (bills) into the Lansing bin/bucket -- they are now $-10. Bonus for dollar-for-dollar match by corporations would count as positive for whichever chapter.

Angela Fossi will have bins at events or contact her at kitispart@gmail.com or 586-484-7027.

Oktoberfest!

Fellow Jaycee member Lauren Kenczyk has asked the Chapter to help with the annual Oktoberfest Bash event at Reno's West again this year.

Reno's West is one of the Lansing Jaycees Bob Pancost Memorial Business Partnership Award winners and we greatly enjoy working with them.

This event will be filled with tons of music, fun and Oktoberfest beer (even available in "DAS BOOT").

We are looking for members to take donations at the door between 5:45 and 10 p.m. We would also love to see as many Jaycees at the event simply enjoying the festivities!

Proceeds from the event will be donated to our local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation branch.

Gazing at the Night Sky

Do you ever look at the night sky in awe and wonder, wanting to know more about the stars? Then mark your calendar for this Saturday, Sept. 22 when Kalamazoo Jaycee Shawn Brueshaber will help us all channel our inner Carl Sagan as he leads a "Celestial Sightings" training.

We will gather at Angela Fossi's home in Mason starting at 8:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

MSU Homecoming Parade

Who doesn't love a parade? The Lansing Jaycees are celebrating the season and membership in the greatest community leadership organization by walking in the MSU Homecoming Parade.

We will be promoting our organization and passing out candy along the parade route. The parade is Friday, October 12th, and line-up starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Hannah Community Center.

More information and evite are forthcoming, but please contact Laura de la Rambelje (Laura.delaRambelje@yahoo.com) if you have any questions or are interested in joining in! You don't have to be a Spartan to enjoy the festive atmosphere!

Fundraising: in Need of Texas Hold'em Volunteers

The Lansing Jaycees do many great things in our community (the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol lawn, Stuff the Bus at Christmastime, Poetry in the City, Relay for Life, we sponsor a softball team, reimburse members who attend state conventions and ) and in order to make these events happen, we have to raise funds for the Chapter.

That's where you and Texas Hold'em comes in.

Working a Texas Hold'em shift is easy. You don't need to know how to deal cards or the rules of Texas Hold'em. All our members need to do is be be able to handle chips, money, and count. Tripper's offers free non-alcoholic drinks and 10 percent off food during your shift. If you have never done this before, no problem! Management Vice President Dan Harris will match you up a friendly and experienced volunteer to work with you.

Last year we received more than $27 per person per hour worked from Texas Hold'em. We need two volunteers for each shift, otherwise we will be in violation of our contract with Ace's (who handles the dealers and equipment), Tripper's, and the state of Michigan.

Do your part to secure Texas Hold'em as a part of the Lansing Jaycee's fundraising plan for 2013 and beyond. Choose to volunteer and sign-up for a shift today! You can register for a shift by following this link to VolunteerSpot.
