Membership Vice President Danielle Wellington has scheduled the next orientation for this Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Olga's in Frandor. President: Angela Clock and John Badeen
Any questions, please contact Elections Chair Laura Stimpson at lstimpson@mijaycees.org. Texas Hold'em - September
The money the Chapter raises through Texas Hold'em is put to good use in the Individual Development, Membership, and Community events you know and love. Without this necessary fundraising money projects are at risk.
Working a Texas Hold'em shift is easy work. You don't need to know how to deal cards or the rules of Texas Hold'em. All our members need to do is be be able to handle chips, money, and count. Trippers also offers free non-alcoholic drinks and 10 percent off food during your shift. If you have never done this before, no problem! Management Vice President Dan Harris will match you up a friendly and experienced volunteer to work with you. Last year we received more than $27 per person per hour worked from Texas Hold'em. Money raised through Texas Hold'em is directly used in nearly all projects the Lansing Jaycees participate in, from the annual Easter Egg Hunt and convention reimbursements to a significant portion of the softball team's expenses. All areas receive benefit from our fundraising activity. We need two volunteers for each shift, otherwise we will be in violation of our contract with Ace's (who handles the dealers and equipment), Tripper's, and the state of Michigan. Do your part to secure Texas Hold'em as a part of the Lansing Jaycee's fundraising plan for 2013 and beyond. Choose to volunteer on behalf of your chapter and sign-up for a shift today! You can register for a shift by following this link to VolunteerSpot.
Stargazing
Do you ever look at the night sky in awe and wonder, wanting to know more about the stars? Then mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 22 when Kalamazoo Jaycee Shawn Brueshaber will lead a "Celestial Sightings" training.
The event will feature a telescope observatory session in conjunction with a computer simulation of the universe and an unaided eye orientation of the heavens. During the few hours to follow, a series of objects will be observed and a brief discussion on each will be given. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming evite with all of the details. The event is sure to be one to remember!
Financial Planning 101
Next Monday the Lansing Jaycees are welcoming Adam Baczkiewicz from Hantz Financial Services (member FINRA/SIPC) to present a free “Financial Planning 101” event at the Capital Area District Library (in the auditorium) on Monday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
The presentation will cover the following: criteria for making proper financial decisions, setting goals, asset allocation-risk vs. reward, evaluating your protection needs, and when estate planning is needed. The event is sure to be an informative and helpful Individual Development project, so mark your calendars! |
