Why do You Relay?Has your life been touched by cancer? Whether you yourself have faced this diagnosis, or a loved one, you can take action to fight back against this terrible disease by helping raise money for the American Cancer Society. Again this year, the Lansing Jaycees have formed a Lansing Relay For Life team and are looking for willing team members. If you're interested in signing up to help fundraise, you can join the Chapter's team by following this hyperlink. If you don't have time to join the team and help fundraise, you can always choose a team member to support here: http://goo.gl/rYUqc, or you can make a general team donation. We are also selling luminarias, which are available for a $10 donation. This is a great way to honor/remember a friend or loved one who has fought, is fighting cancer. Your donation gets you a white paper bag you can decorate and put on display at the Lansing Relay For Life event, which is taking place this year June 8 through June 9 at Lansing Catholic Central High School. Hungry and want to help fight cancer? Well, mark your calendars for Monday, May 14 when the Chapter's Relay For Life team will hold a fundraiser at bd's Mongolian Grill in Okemos. Bring in this flyer and our team will receive 15 percent of all sales from the event. *Note* You must have the flyer for your patronage to benefit the team. Lastly, share your story with your fellow Jaycees. Maybe you saw Lansing Jaycees Secretary Abby Siegel's "Why I Relay" piece in the April newsletter. We'd love to hear from all of you about why you choose to help out with event. Anyone can write and submit an article for our newsletter. Pieces for the May newsletter are due this Friday, May 4. Please submit them to Abby via queenpetunia@hotmail.com
Play (soft)Ball!A sure sign of spring is that it is softball season! The Lansing Jaycees chapter has again sponsored a softball team and we'd love to have more members join our roster. Interested members can contact Coach Melissa Horste via email at: melissa.emily.horste@gmail.com to find out more information, or hopefully, join the team. Even if you're not interested in playing, we welcome spectators/cheerleaders. The season schedule is as follows: May 7: 6:15 p.m.
The Greater Lansing Food Bank Needs Your Help! The Greater Lansing Food Bank has asked the Lansing Jaycees to help staff one of its largest fundraisers of the year: the Empty Plate dinner. Guests attending the event enjoy a casual strolling dinner with amazing food and drinks from the area's top restaurants and caterers, a commemorative 'empty plate' painted by children at local elementary schools, and unique live and silent auction options, including sports and vacation packages. All proceeds from the event benefit the Greater Lansing Food Bank, whose mission is to stop hunger in the Greater Lansing area. The food bank is primarily in need of help with the greeting/bidder paddle registration and with the silent auction/live auction portions of the event. Depending on your task assigned, you’ll be given an orientation and run-through for that role. You'll also have an opportunity to sample the food! If you can spare the time in your schedule, please help support the Greater Lansing Food Bank's Empty Plate Dinner as a volunteer.
