It's almost time for the Lansing Jaycees Annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Capital lawn!
This project is one of our signature events. Easter is a little earlier this year, so the hunt will be held on Saturday, April 7. Please join us in making this project a success! If you haven't already RSVPed for volunteering at the hunt, we could still use your help for Setup/Tear Down, Mascot Escorts, Crafts/Games, Handing Out Programs, Raffle, Volunteer Coordination, Face Painting, or "Does Not Matter." Roles will be assigned when you arrive. Volunteers are requested at 8 a.m. The public start time is 10 a.m., with the actual hunt starting promptly at 11 a.m. Want to help spread the word about the hunt to your co-workers/neighbors/non-Jaycee friends who have kids? You can download the flyer here: www.lansingjaycees.org/docs/EEHflyer4.3.docx Last year we had about 1,000 children and their parents out at the hunt and we're hoping to tie that, or break that record this year. The event is a smashing good time and we hope you can make it out, whether you're volunteering or brining your children. See you there! Money, money, money!
Do you still have receipts for a first trimester event that you were planning to get reimbursed for?
You have until Wednesday, April 4 at noon (that's tomorrow) to get your receipts to Lansing Jaycees Treasurer Sheryl Soczek. If you don't have Sheryl's email and you don't know how to find it through the Lansing Jaycees website, feel free to contact Presidnet Lauren Leeds at president@lansingjaycees.org. Learning about LaTeX
Are you fed up with Microsoft Word? Or do you want to see what alternatives are out there? Then Individual Development Vice President Joe Kelly has the perfect event for you!
Joe Kelly has been using LaTeX for eight years and will be giving the presentation on the LaTeX markup language on Monday, April 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Capital Area District Library. LaTeX (note the capitalization) is a text-processor, much unlike Word. LaTeX allows the end-user much more control over their documents, while at the same time generating documents that are consistent throughout from start to finish. For these reasons, LaTeX is widely used in academia. So, mark your calendars for April 9th and come out to learn all about LaTeX! Haunted House talk, in April?
Yes, it's only April and plans for bringnig back the Monster Mayhem Haunted House are already in full swing.
To successfully pull off a project of this scale, we have to start planning early, as Halloween season will be here before we know it! Next week the PR & Sponsorship subcommittee for the haunted house will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Grand Travese Pie Co. in East Lansing (see the calendar to the left for more information). Come join the fun in making sure the haunted house happens this year! Bring your ideas and an open mind to the subcommittee meeting, as we will be starting to plan our course of action in terms of Advertising, Public Relations and Sponsorship for the Monster Mayhem Haunted House. Hope to see you there!
Calling all Green Thumbs (and Non-Green Thumbs)
Celebrate Earth Day with the Lansing Jaycees by joining us for a fun afternoon of work at Lansing's first urban farm: Urbandale Farm.
We will assist the farm out by helping to groundhog-proof the farm on Saturday, April 21 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Any time you can spare is welcome! Just in case, the rain date for this event is Sunday, April 22. Last year, the farm was plauged by neighborhood groundhogs who ate broccoli, beans, and lettuces by the row. Throughout the day we will reinforce the bases of Urbandale's fences by stapling or zip-tying chicken wire in places where the groundhogs enter. Bring work gloves and wear boots that can get muddy. We'll have extra gloves and tools on hand, but these items could come in handy if you have them: shovels, pruners, loppers, and any old chicken wire that you don't need. For more information on the Lansing Urbandale Farm, visit: lansingurbanfarmproject.wordpress.com
Frisbee Golf!
Now that spring is finally here and the weather is warming up, it's time to enjoy it with some frisbee golf!
Frisbee golf is almost just like golf. The main difference is that you don't have to hit a small white ball anywhere. Instead, you get to throw a frisbee. Join the Lansing Jaycees for a round of frisbee golf on Saturday, April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Charlotte. This event is sure to be fun. Anyone interested in attending should RSVP to IDVP Joe Kelly at: joewkelly@gmail.com. For more information on Lincoln Park frisbee golf, visit: www.discgolfscene.com/courses/Lincoln_Park.
Bowling for Kids' Sake!
Join the Lansing Jaycees team as we bowl and raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region through one of their largest fundraisers of the year: Bowl For Kids' Sake.
If you want to join the Lansing Jaycees team, make sure to sign up for the Friday, April 27 date, registration at 7:45 p.m.! This project ties into the new partnership between the Michigan Jaycees and Mentor Michigan. The money we raise will help provide support to Big Brothers Big Sisters to make mentoring matches. Our goal this year is to raise $1,500! Make sure to sign up on the website in order to raise money! We're asking that participants raise at least $50. Sign up here -- http://goo.gl/YdnPM Can't commit to fundraising or bowling? Then why not support our team and a great cause. You can choose to support one of many team members participating (Angela Clock [project chair], Lauren Leeds, Charlie Root, or Comlanvi Akibode). Unable to pick just one member to donate to? You can make a general team donation here: http://goo.gl/g9lPW
